Perry Barr joins the rest of the nation in marking the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was a complex character by birth and attitude. Born in Greece he was descended from the Greek and Danish monarchy. Educated in France, Germany, Scotland and the Royal Naval College Dartmouth he joined the Royal Navy soon after the outbreak of WW2. Following the war he continued Naval service until 1951. By then he was married to HRH Queen Elizabeth so went straight into performing Royal duties which he continued until 2017. Within that time he had done 22,219 solo engagements and countless others as part of the Royal household. He was relaxed and confident in manner and also polite and forthright. History will show he was a vital and valuable part of the Elizabethan age.
