£350m for the West Midlands, including Perry Barr

Today the Chancellor of the Exchequer has granted us £350million of investment in a Housing Deal with the West Midlands.

It includes these schemes: the Commonwealth Games Athlete's village and improvements in Perry Barr, Greater Icknield and Smethwick in Birmingham/Sandwell, Kings Hill, Westwood Heath and Coventry Ring Road Junction 7 in Coventry, UK Central at Balsall Common in Solihull, £100m to clean up land around prioirty sites, focused on the Walsall to Wolverhampton corridor to deliver at least 8,000 homes, a commitment to work with Housing Associations on new ways to finance and build affordable homes to rent or buy, a new Joint Delivery Team with Homes England to ensure homes are built on time and a new Centre of Excellence for Brownfield Remediation and Construction Skills in Wolverhampton to provide the training we need.

Andy Street says, "This is a massive step forward in delivering my Renewal Plan pledge of combining an increase in housebuilding with a commitment to a brownfield first approach. We said we would champion our region to Government and get more investment and we are doing just that."
